Laura is a multi-faceted artist. Her artistic background is in product design, illustration, installation art and papier-mâché sculpting. She is originally from Catalonia, and she has lived in New Orleans, LA since 2002.

Laura grew up with the magazine Cavall Fort being always on the kitchen table. It is a publication destined for children, filled with wonderful illustrations. From age 8-12 she took pottery and drawing classes from ceramist Maria Gelabert.

In 1992 the Olympic Games were hosted just miles away from her hometown, in Barcelona city. Artist Javier Mariscal designed a minimalist mascot, Cobi, to represent this complex event. Laura understood that simplicity awakens great excitement and is well received in the art world.

In 1996 she graduated in product design at Ramon Llull University, Sabadell, where she was brought up holding hands with the German Bauhaus School. Other artistic minds that influenced her were Alvar Aalto, Philippe Starck, and Joan Miró.

During the next 4 years she worked as a product designer in the design department for Indecasa, an aluminum furniture production company. She also collaborated with architect Joan Torres to design installation art for two Laie bookstores, one of which was located in the CCCB (Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona).

In 2002 she followed her attraction for American music and visual arts discovering New Orleans, where she had the opportunity to work as a sculptor and a papier-mâché artist in the Prop Shop for Mardi Gras World.

From 2009 to this day, she has been a full-time self-employed artist living in New Orleans. Her acrylic paintings have been exhibited in several art venues in the city, including the Jackson Square Artists Community. During this time, she has created series such as, the 4 Steps Series, the Quarter Stroll Series, and the Barcelona ’92 Series.

For the past 6 years, she has dived into the world of continuous line drawing, while unceasing to expand the Barcelona ’92 Series. Today her artwork can be found on social media, on Instagram @franch.art , on Etsy, and at her website.
