Barcelona ’92 Series is an open-ended project.

It began to take form in 2013 when I created the painting Crowd 1. It depicted a group of walking legs, executed in a 1/1 scale.

The inspiration came from my personal experience of witnessing the diverse crowds of people in the streets of Barcelona during the Olympic Games in 1992. This memory got reactivated while living in the French Quarter in New Orleans, where all walks of life assemble.
To this day I have designed up to the painting Crowd 25.

Barcelona ’92 Series is literally an infinite array of steps, where each painting is linked to its adjacent paintings. Any new Crowd addition will be linked to the last one.

I would like to mention a material that plays an important role in the execution of this technique. The modeling paste transforms the canvas into a paper-like surface, providing the absorbency I need to work with acrylic washes.

This is how each canvas is linked to the next one. A shoe is partially painted on a canvas and continues over to the next canvas to the right.
